I got to interview the incredibly beautiful singer/songwriter Hayley Payne. We talked all things from her musical sound, her favorite song shes written, most memorable show moment, and more! Keep reading to find out more about the incredible Hayley Payne!
NN: How would you describe your sound? What would you say differentiates you from other country singers?
Hayley: I would describe my sound as "future country". I love all kinds of music: the upbeat pop sound, the down-to-earth stories of country. I feel like country is going more in the pop direction and I love it. I think being my age in country music is something that makes me different; I can bring a different perspective into the genre.
NN: You are a singer/songwriter, what is your favorite song you've written and what is the meaning/story behind it?
H: I have a tie between my favorite songs that I've written so far. One is called Dear Heart and the other is Don't Know It Yet. They are my favorites for different reasons. Dear Heart is a soft song about wishing your heart wouldn't make you feel things that cause you pain, whether it's a person that you like that doesn't feel the same, or a dream that is almost unreachable. Don't Know It Yet is a fun, upbeat song about being in love with a celebrity that doesn't know you exist, but you still hold on the the hoe that someday they will. I was inspired to write this song because I am OBSESSED with One Direction, and I know how it feels to wish they would notice me, despite the millions of girls that love them. I love how catch this song is, but mostly I love how relatable it is to other girls my age.
NN: You share on your website that you have played a number of shows, what is one of the coolest or most memorable stories from you shows?
H: I always love to perform, and I've had so many great opportunities. One of my favorite shows was this summer at an event called Live on the Banks in my hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky. I had the privilege of playing with Miss Kentucky 2014 Ramsey Carpenter, who played fiddle. She was so sweet and to this day she still follows me and likes my pictures and I till freak out a little bit.
NN: Do you plan on releasing any music soon, and if so what can you share with us about that?
H: I am working on an EP project to release (hopefully!!) sometime in 2016. This will be my first true project, so I am so excited about it! I want to write my best songs for it. i am working with some very talented people.
NN: You're a young artist, how do you manage balancing school work, friends, family, and your music?
H: I feel like i do a pretty good job balancing my teenager life with my music. My family and friends are so supportive. I couldn't do it without them! My friends understand that sometimes I have to decline hanging out because of my music. They don't see it as a job, they see it as part of me, and I do too. School work can be kind of stressful, but I manage to be a straight A student!
NN: If you could do a collaboration with anyone, who would you choose and why?
H: This might sound kind of "basic", but I would have to choose Taylor Swift to do a collaboration with. She is my inspiration, not only as a singer/songwriter, but as a young girl. i have love her since 2006, and she is so captivating in the sense that she makes you feel like she is your best friend. To perform with her would be a dream come true.
NN: Fans play a huge role in helping build audiences and having a music career, what would you say to your fans if you could talk to each and every one of your supporters?
H: I actually get the chance to talk to most of my supporters through social media. It makes me so happy to see how happy they are when I do something as simple as following them or replying to their tweets and comments. I am a firm believer in the follow-back policy, and I think that is one of the things that makes them feel special. I love talking to them about how their day was, what their favorite movies are, etc. I want to show my appreciation to them for supporting me in this journey!
