Today I have the absolute pleasure of introducing you to the Mena Band! They have been recognized for their song Save Myself by many people including some mega pop stars (keep reading to find out who!) There is so much buzz around these two on social media! You are going to want to keep reading to find out more about these two awesome ladies!
NN: Tell us about Mena, who you are, how you go started, etc.?
Mena: We are sisters. We started singing in a family band, when we were kids growing up in south Mississippi. I don't really ever remember a time when music wasn't a huge part of our lives actually!
NN: Your song Save Myself is so good! I love the message and feel this generation needs to hear the message! Did you write the song and if so how did you go about writing it? If not, why did you choose this song, what influenced you to pick the song with so much meaning behind it?
Mena: Thank you! Save myself was written by Kevin Kadish, Nathan Chapman, and Ivory Lane. It's actually the first song we have ever recorded that we didn't write. The first time I heard it, it hit me hard. I immediately sent it to my sister Leah and she had the same reaction. I just felt like its message was so counter cultural we both connected with the heart of it. Not only of saving yourself, but the independent and almost rebellious nature in the way it's written. We knew we wanted to sing it and it had an audience!
NN: So the superstar I mentioned in the beginning was Megan Trainor! How awesome is that! I was so excited for the Mena Band when I saw this!
NN: Here is the video for Save Myself if you haven't heard it! I highly recommend watching this video!
NN: You recently took part in the Girls of Nashville with Kelleigh Bannen and Andrea Davidson, and more, how was that like? Did the group of your ladies get to talk much and if so did either of them give you any advice about your music careers?
Mena: We have actually played with Kelleigh before. She is so talented and such a pro. We were both able to get to know her more recently at a party. We are kindred spirits I think! She is an amazing girl. And Andrea, her guitar playing and her voice are so intrinsic. We loved playing with them both!
NN: What is a bucket list item you hope to be able to cross off with your music careers?
Mena: Hearing our song on the radio. That would be magic I think!
NN: if you could do a collaboration with anyone who would you choose and why?
Mena: Ryan Tedder. He's just so talented. It's pretty undeniable. he never writes a song I dislike.
Mena Band, thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview!
