Today on the blog I'm sharing an interview with singer/songwriter Seth Cook. Keep reading to learn all about Seth and his music career!
NN: So you started playing the drums at age four. What made you want to start playing music and then continue to make it a career?
Seth: I had my start playing music at age 4 playing with my grandfather. Ever since I was a kid, music was an outlet and a way of expressing myself. I didn't pick music, music picked me and I'm extremely thankful. Continuing to grow a love for music is what made me decide to pursue it as a career.
NN: You are a singer/songwriter who released a six track EP, what is your favorite part of the production, from writing the songs, to recording them, and why?
Seth: My favorite part of the making a record is creating in the studio. Writing the songs is a process I enjoy, but I think recording the songs and bringing them to life is what excites me. It's a cool thing that you start from nothing. There are so many ways of approaching music whether it's writing or recording. All of it is so much fun but the foundation is important. The song has gotta speak before a track can bring it to life.
NN: You have opened for a lot of great artists such as Rascal Flatts and Luke Bryan, I'm sure you've had some cool experiences with those artists. What is the best advice that someone you opened for gave you and how did you apply it to your music career?
Seth: I've gotten very limited amount of advice from people we've opened for. Most of them recognize the love for it and that's the most important thing. If you don't love it, why are you doing it. So they just encourage me to be the best I can be. It's cheesy, but great advice.
NN: What is one thing you would love to check off of your musical career bucket list?
Seth: I want to play the Grand Ole Opry extremely bad. If I ever play it, I think thats when I'll feel like i've made it. Its a surreal thing, so much history.
NN: When touring and playing shows what are the things you can't leave home without?
Seth: When touring I can't leave without my phone, computer, and cheezits. haha
NN: Who influences your musical stylings and career?
Seth: My inspirations in music are Vince Gill, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Dawes, Phil Vassar, Michael Jackson, and Andrew Ripp.
NN: If you could do a duet with anyone who would you choose and why?
Seth: If I could do a duet with anyone, it'd be Hillary Scott from Lady Antebellum. Her voice is so captivating and beautiful. It'd be a dream come true to sing on a song with her.
