PIGEON FORGE, Tenn -- Today, Dolly Parton will assist with the ongoing relief efforts around the United States and its territories by making a contribution to the One America Appeal for Hurricane Relief to assist with immediate life sustaining needs of those affected. The One America Appeal is a joint appeal that was originally launched by all five living former American Presidents to encourage their fellow citizens to support recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey. This special appeal has been expanded to include areas most affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Dolly recalled, “After the tremendous outpouring of support my hometown received last winter after the wildfires raged through the area, I want to do my part to help other areas affected by natural disasters. I admire and respect this effort led by our Presidents so it is an honor for me to contribute to their work.” In addition to the financial contribution to the One America Appeal, Dolly will launch a partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the nonprofit social enterprise First Book, and Penguin Young Readers to provide 500,000 books to hurricane-affected areas through the First Book National Book Bank.To kick off thecampaign, Dolly’s foundation donated 165,000 books and the $90,750 needed to cover the shipping and handling charges to make books available quickly and at no cost to educators affected by the storms. From Hurricane Katrina to Hurricane Sandy to last year's floods in Louisiana, First Book has distributed over 5 million books to families affected by disasters, in partnership with children’s book publishers, including a substantial book donation from Penguin Young Readers. Penguin Young Readers also partners with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and First Book to support their book gifting programs and other outreach efforts, with a special focus on getting books to children in times of natural disasters. “I know in the immediate aftermath of a disaster books are not the first thing people need or miss. But I also know from our past experience that after some time has passed, families, schools and libraries are eager to replenish their shelves, and their hearts, with books. First Book asked us to join with them to get the right books in the right hands at the right time and we were pleased to do so," said Dolly. If you would like to learn more or donate to this effort—or if you work with a school or program affected by the storms—please visit support.firstbook.org. Schools and programs affected by the storms can sign up for free with First Book and will then receive information about how to request books; each book distribution will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. “Free Drinks” and “If It Ain’t Fixed” Available Today

“Since beginning a solo country career, Lewis has only grown more confident in his honky-tonk spirit with last year's excellent Sinner LP easily being one of the year’s best country albums.” - Dallas Morning News. Making its debut at No. 1 on the Top 200 Albums, Top Country Albums and Top Digital Albums Charts, Lewis released SINNER, his third solo country project, in September 2016. In the stunning Dot Records follow up to his full-length solo debut, THE ROAD, Lewis redefines outlaw country. The critically-acclaimed project was recorded in a stunning 16 hours at Nashville’s Blackbird Studio with legendary producer Buddy Cannon (Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Alison Krauss, Jamey Johnson). Single-handedly writing 8 out of the 12 tracks, the outspoken singer/songwriter once again delivers.” “Aaron Lewis shows a surprising understanding and respect for country music with his latest album, Sinner. Drawing from his childhood influences of listening to country music in his grandfather's car, Sinner shows Aaron's abilities as a singer, songwriter, musician and stylist. With guest appearances from Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson and Dan Tyminski, SINNER might just be the record that propels Aaron to a permanent place in country music.” - The Boot “Aaron Lewis brings a raw honesty to his songs on the new album Sinner that Country Music radio hasn’t heard in a long time. NashNews: Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into music? Kaylin Roberson: My name is Kaylin Roberson and I’m an 18-year-old singer-songwriter out of Raleigh, NC. Born and raised in the Carolina’s, has made my love for country/pop music strong. I’ve been singing, ever since I could make noise out of my mouth, and there’s plenty of funny videos to prove it. My dad put me into piano lessons at the age of 6, to get me involved in music. He always encouraged me and my sister to try new things, and out of all the sports and arts I’ve tried, I stuck with singing, performing, and writing music. I started taking music more seriously by the age of nine when a tragic event occurred, that turned my life around forever. In third grade, I was viciously attacked by a family dog. He ended up ripping off the right half of my lip and splitting open the side of my eye, down to my cheek bone. I was put on life support for surgery and ended up having over 200 stitches in my face. I relied on my happiness for music to get me through all the pain and hardship that followed the event. I currently write songs, and perform with my band at a variety of venues. NN: You will be performing at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis for Music Gives to St. Jude Kids day on August 4th, what does this opportunity mean to you? What are you most looking forward to during this day? Kaylin: I am more than honored, and excited to be performing at the inaugural kick off of National Music Gives to St. Jude Kids day. The opportunity to share my love of music with the kids at St. Jude is incomprehensible. I may not have had to battle cancer, but I know exactly what it feels like to be stuck in a hospital, feeling isolated and different. I relate to these kids on a very personal level, and I look forward to putting a smile on their face on August 4th. I want them to walk out of the concert, realizing how strong they are, and how much hope they can find within music. NN: Being a songwriter, what song is your favorite that you’ve written? What makes this your favorite? Kaylin: My favorite song that I’ve written so far is “Fighter in Me”, which I wrote specifically for the kids and families of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It’s my favorite piece of work, because it has a strong and direct purpose. I hope that it gives strength to those in a time of pain and weakness. NN: What is a song that you wish you would have written? Why?
Kaylin: I would like to write a song that reaches out to someone who constantly tries to put others down. I would like to write a song that puts someone in their place, because often, songs reach out to those who are sad or in pain, but I would love to make a difference in someone who believes they are high and mighty over the rest of us. People are constantly reaching out to the victims of bullying, but sometimes we need to reach out to those who are doing the bullying. This is important to me, being that I was bullied in middle school for having scars on my face. NN: What is a favorite memory you have from performing? Kaylin: My favorite memory of performing was in San Antonio, Texas at a foster home. Half of the kids I was singing for, couldn’t speak English, yet they were still moving and having the time of their lives. At that moment and time, I finally realized the power of music, and how it speaks to all of us. NN: If you could do a duet with anyone who would you choose and why? Kaylin: My dream duet partner is Miley Cyrus, because Hannah Montana was a major inspiration for me when I was little and people used to always tell me that I look like her. I’ve been dreaming about meeting her ever since I was a little girl. NN: What are three Pandora stations you are currently listening to? Kaylin: I listen to Today’s Country, Today’s Hits, and the Country pop station. NN: What are three things you can’t leave for a performance without? Kaylin: I don’t leave for a performance without my favorite guitar pick that I got from Loveless Café in Nashville, when I first paid a visit. Kaylin, thank you so much for taking the time to answer some questions for us! Be sure to follow Kaylin on all social media @kaylinroberson, for new music and upcoming events!
