Today I'm so excited to introduce you to up and coming duo Megan and Liz! I was given the opportunity to interview Megan and Liz and I am so excited to be able to share that with you today! I learned more about who they are, their new EP, music videos and even their fashion go to's! To learn about these topics and more keep reading!
Tell us about Megan and Liz! We would like to know a little bit about each of you and your musical background!
Liz: Well, I am Liz, I am the resident extrovert. (LOL) But I guess in the duo that is the way to describe me! I am always looking for adventures, and always down for them. I think this shows in my musical background even though ours are very similar (I mean twins what can you do?) But between the two of us I am more into the hipster, techno side of music. We both stay on the main path, that being mainstream country, and good old fashioned pop music, but you will definitely find me jamming to that Rihanna B side that no one has really heard of!
Megan: That makes me Megan, the quiet, get-stuff-done introvert. I’m one of those people who is pretty shy upfront, but once I get to know you, I will not stop talking. This translates to my musical background because I’m 90% of the time quietly observing in the background. This is where I get a ton of my song ideas and I really feel everything strongly. I was a die-hard Britney Spears fan from the ages of 10-12, and a HUGE Dixie Chicks fan. I’ve always been a big fan of the songs that tell you a story and make you feel what they were feeling when they wrote it.
Tell us three words that describe each of you?
Liz: For me i would choose... hmm... goofy, happy, outgoing!
Megan: Driven, sensitive, and happy!
First let's talk about the super exciting stuff! You have a new EP called DEUX coming out on March 11, 2016! Will you be making any appearances for your drop date? Tell us a little bit about this project and how it all came together?
Liz: We are hoping to have some sort of EP release party! As of right now, it could be a few people over to our house, or having a huge blow out and renting a space, but stay tuned… lol! This EP is one that we feel indeed needs celebrating. It is a 7 song work of love and blood sweat and tears. We have poured so much of ourselves into this project and we are so ready to see how everyone reacts to it. It has been a long time coming, just us getting back into Nashville and really getting the feel of where and who we are both musically and as young women. I think that will be seen and heard all over “DEUX!”
Megan: I’m so proud of this EP because there was no pressure behind it. It was the first time in a long time that we weren’t writing every single day “trying to get the single.” It was so much more fun just writing when we felt inspired and calling up our favorite Nashville writers when it hit. The past two years have brought back a lot of the love and passion for music that you forget about when you’re constantly trying to “write a hit.”
You recently shot a music video for your song "Big Kids"! How did you come up with the concept for this video? What is the whole music video shoot experience like?
Liz: For “Big Kids” the concept is basically our lives… we are 23 years old and really just pretending to be adults and pretending to know what we are doing. Stuff like cleaning your own home and having to do that adult stuff you saw your parents doing! We wanted the video to be relatable, to have people are age look at it and be like “yep.” Basically, the struggle Is so real. The video was so easy to shoot because I was playing myself on the daily, just trying to make it through!
Megan: Yes, exactly. It’s really just all about being okay with the fact that you’re not okay and you have no idea what you’re doing in life!
What is one bucket list item that you have been able to cross off? What is one you would love to cross off?
Liz: For me one bucket list item I was able to cross off was play to an arena of people. There is no high like a performance high, and when you do it on an arena scale, it is honeslty the best feeling in this world, I’m convinced of that! As far as one I would like to cross off, is to be on a stage accepting an award. I think thanking my mom on TV would be the ultimate moment of “Wow, I made it.”
Megan: One of my huge bucket list items I’ve checked off was hearing our song on the radio out of the blue. I’ll always remember that moment – I didn’t know it was coming. I was getting in my car at Green Hills Mall and BAM. It was on the radio. It was such a sense of validation. I think one bucket list item I’d still like to check off is to have a #1 song. But I mean, who doesn’t want that?!
Where do you hope to see your music career in one year? Five years?
Liz: In one year, I would love to be touring. Whether it be an opening spot, or a headlining thing, I would just love to be on a bus in the middle of the country, playing songs every night. In 5 years I would like to still be touring, still be writing and creating. I hope to be breaking new ground in some way in 5 years, not sure how, but 5 years is a long time, and it would be cool to be someone who did something monumental.
Megan: Yeah, definitely the same as Liz. I would really like to be touring. Five years, wow. I don’t wanna think about that because I’d be 28! Hah! At that point I’d definitely like to have a solid career, and hopefully a solid relationship. Who knows, maybe even a kid by then! A lot can happen in five years, because 5 years ago I was 18 still in high school! All I know is that I want to still be writing and performing.
If you guys could collaborate with anyone in the music industry who would you choose and why?
Liz: For me personally, I would love to work with Shane Macanally, I absolutely love his work and style. He has that something that can’t be explained that I am just instantly drawn to, when I hear a Shane song, I am like YES. I would just love to see how he does it and what it would sound like mixed with Megan and Liz.
Megan: YES SHANE. He’s a genius. I’d love to do a duet with another male duo in country music. It’d be like the duo-duo. So many fun harmonies.
What does 2016 have in store for you guys?
Liz: 2016 is the year of why not for us. We are going into it with open eyes and hearts. We are taking chances and seeing where the wind takes us, so stay tuned friends!
Megan: I’ve always had a good feeling about 2016 ever since I was 12. I just knew that the year I was 23 would be one where everything sort of came together, so I’m hoping to watch that unfold this year!
Your friends at Covergirl helped you guys get red carpet ready for the CMT Artist of The Year Awards this past December! What is each of your favorite Covergirl products that you use?
Liz: I think I can speak for both of us when I say MASCARA! We have searched high and low for a better mascara than covergirl’s really any variation. We are super into the plumpify right now, and not just because Katy Perry SLAYS in the commercial for it…. Ok that did help convince us but yeah.
Megan: Yes Liz, yes.
Since we're talking about red carpets! What has been your favorite red carpet look that you've worn?
Liz: For me it was the 2015 CMT awards. I had my pink hair, and this amazing 2 piece set that I ordered online and it miraculously fit me perfectly! And Megan wore this amazing white lace dress and pink heels to match my hair. It just felt really together but special at the same time!
Megan: Oooo mine was the 2015 Teen Choice Awards. I wore this burgundy romper that I’m still obsessed with. That was one of the first red carpets where I felt like my outfit really reflected my personality.
Megan and Liz, thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions for me!
